Not always. Some 400G QSFP-DD ports use 8×50G PAM4, while this cable is intended for 4×100G PAM4 operation, so the host port mode must be checked before purchase.
It depends on the lane configuration supported by the QSFP-DD port. If the port only supports 8×50G PAM4 for 400G, this DAC is not the right match; a validated optical transceiver and fiber solution may be more suitable.
This type of passive copper cable is recommended for short-reach connections, typically up to 3m. For longer links, an AOC or optical transceiver solution is usually a better choice.
The Flat Top OSFP end is commonly used with OSFP network cards or server-side ports where a finned heat sink is not required on the cable. Please match the OSFP top type with the cage design of your device.
The cable was installed and tested right after delivery, and the link came up quickly. Build quality feels solid, and it works well for short-reach interconnects.
We used it between a switch and a server NIC, and it has been running steadily so far. The cable is a bit stiff, but still manageable inside the rack.
We bought it for high-speed links in our lab setup, and it has been stable with no link drops. It is also much more cost-friendly than the original cable option.
