Do I need an attenuator for a very short OS2 fiber patch, such as 3m?

Usually no. This 10G LR module can normally be used on short single-mode OS2 patch links without an attenuator. If the host reports high receive power or optical alarms, a small attenuator may be considered.

Can I use this 10km LR module for a 350ft single-mode fiber run?

Yes. The 10km rating is the maximum supported reach, not the required minimum distance. A 350ft OS2 single-mode link is well within the supported range.

Why do some 10G LR modules look the same but have different part numbers?

They may share the same optical specification but use different compatibility coding, label options, or internal product IDs. When ordering, match the module coding to the device where it will be installed.

Should I choose 10G LR or 10G SR for my link?

Choose 10G LR for single-mode duplex LC fiber links, especially building-to-building or longer cable runs. Choose 10G SR for short multimode fiber links inside racks, rooms, or data centers.
