Can I use this 1G SFP in a 1/10G SFP+ port?

It can work only if the SFP+ port supports 1G SFP operation. Some 1/10G SFP+ ports support downshift to 1G, but the port may need to be configured manually.

Do I need an attenuator for a short single-mode link under 500m?

Usually no. This 1G LX/LH module can normally be used on short OS2 single-mode fiber links without an attenuator. If the device reports high Rx power or optical alarms, a small attenuator can be considered.

Can this module link to a 100Mb fiber switch?

No. This is a 1000BASE-LX/LH Gigabit SFP module and is not designed for 100Mb fiber ports. For 100Mb links, use a compatible 100BASE optical transceiver.

What fiber cable should I use between two 1G LX/LH modules?

Use a duplex LC/UPC single-mode fiber patch cable, typically OS2. Both ends should use matching 1000BASE-LX/LH modules for a stable link.
