Find answers to common questions about our products.

Our servers have dual 25GbE NICs connected to two SN3420 switches. Should we use MLAG or EVPN Multihoming?

MLAG is often the more direct choice for a pair of ToR switches that need active-active server connectivity and link aggregation; the server typically uses an LACP bond. EVPN Multihoming is generally a stronger long-term option for Clos and BGP EVPN fabrics, especially where reducing peer-link dependence is important.

Can this switch be installed in a remote rack and provisioned centrally without sending an engineer on site?

Yes, provided that an out-of-band DHCP-enabled management network is prepared in advance. The Cumulus Linux management interface can obtain an address through DHCP and can use ZTP to retrieve and run an initialization script. For repeatable deployments, hostname, management addressing, uplink BGP, VLANs, monitoring, and access-control settings can be preconfigured in the provisioning workflow.

Can the same SN3420 carry RoCE storage traffic, VM traffic, and backup traffic?

Yes, but the entire network should not be configured as lossless. RoCE traffic should be classified into a dedicated priority and designed end to end with ECN, PFC, and buffer policies. VM, backup, and management traffic normally remain best-effort. Validate PFC counters, ECN marking, congestion behavior, and real application throughput before production use.

Can I directly import the configuration from an existing Onyx-based switch into this Cumulus Linux model?

Direct import is not recommended. Onyx and Cumulus Linux use different CLI syntax, configuration structures, and automation models. Recreate the intended network behavior for VLANs, LAG/MLAG, VRFs, BGP, ACLs, and QoS, then validate routing, MAC learning, link aggregation, and failover in a lab before migration.
