Can one MSN3700-CS2F provide 64×25GbE server ports and 16×100GbE uplinks with a 1:1 bandwidth design?

Yes. By breaking out 16 QSFP28 ports into 4×25GbE each, the switch can provide 64×25GbE downlinks while the remaining 16 ports operate as native 100GbE uplinks. This creates 1.6Tbps of host-facing bandwidth and 1.6Tbps of uplink bandwidth, which is suitable for dense racks that require minimal oversubscription.

Can I use only two branches of a 100GbE-to-4×25GbE breakout cable at first?

Yes. The SN3700C supports splitting a 100GbE port into four or fewer 25GbE connections, so unused branches can remain unconnected temporarily. Configure the physical port as split-4 in Onyx first, then configure only the logical interfaces that are actually in use. Keep unused cable ends protected and clearly labeled.

We still have some 40GbE equipment. Can it remain connected while we migrate to 100GbE?

Yes. QSFP28 ports can operate at 40GbE, allowing selected legacy 40GbE links to remain active alongside new 100GbE or 25GbE connections.

Can traffic from a 100GbE port be copied to a security appliance or packet analyzer?

Yes. Onyx supports port mirroring, which can send a copy of selected traffic to an analyzer port for troubleshooting, intrusion detection, or protocol analysis.
