Is the SN4700 better suited for a 400GbE leaf layer or a spine / super-spine role?

This model is generally best suited for spine, super-spine, and high-density aggregation deployments. Its 32 QSFP-DD 400GbE ports provide a large amount of high-speed uplink capacity in only 1U, making it suitable for 100GbE, 200GbE, and 400GbE leaf switches, GPU clusters, and high-performance storage fabrics.

Can the SN4700 aggregate a network that includes 100GbE, 200GbE, and 400GbE devices?

Yes. The SN4700 supports multiple Ethernet speeds from 1GbE through 400GbE, allowing mixed-speed migration within one fabric. Its QSFP-DD ports can be used with compatible QSFP56, QSFP28.

Can Onyx help troubleshoot intermittent packet loss, congestion, or link-related events?

Yes. In addition to CLI, WebUI, and SNMP management, Onyx supports What Just Happened (WJH) event diagnostics for forwarding, Layer 1, ACL, and buffer-related events. For intermittent drops or burst congestion, WJH data can be reviewed alongside interface counters, system logs, and SNMP traps to improve root-cause analysis.
