Find answers to common questions about our products.
MQM9790 does not provide the local network operating environment typically available on a managed switch. Fabric initialization, routing, device discovery, and ongoing administration are handled by an external host running OpenSM or NVIDIA UFM.
An InfiniBand fabric requires a running Subnet Manager to discover devices, assign LIDs, and establish routing. Physical connectivity alone does not create an operational fabric. Verify that OpenSM or UFM is running properly on a server connected to the InfiniBand network.
OpenSM is often sufficient for smaller fabrics with a simple topology and limited operational requirements. NVIDIA UFM is better suited to multi-switch environments, larger GPU clusters, and deployments that require centralized monitoring, alerting, performance visibility, and faster fault isolation.
