In a single-switch design where all ports are used for server-facing connections, QM8700 can directly connect up to 40 single-port 200G servers. The available server count is reduced when ports are reserved for spine uplinks, storage, or other fabric links.
Yes. Each QSFP56 port can be split into two independent HDR100 ports, allowing the switch to provide up to 80 logical 100G ports. This is useful for 100G server access today while preserving a migration path toward 200G connectivity.
It does not create port blocking, but the switch must be configured for Split-Ready operation before breakout ports can be used. Splitting clears the existing configuration on that interface, so port planning should be completed before deployment or during a scheduled maintenance window.
P2C means Power-to-Connector airflow: air enters from the power-supply side and exits from the port side. MQM8700-HS2F should be installed with the same airflow direction as the other equipment in the rack, with adequate exhaust clearance at the connector side. Mixing opposite airflow directions in one rack can cause hot-air recirculation and reduced cooling efficiency.
