What does “externally managed” mean in day-to-day deployment?

MQM8790 does not provide local MLNX-OS, a WebUI, or an onboard Subnet Manager. A server connected to the InfiniBand fabric must run OpenSM, or NVIDIA UFM can be deployed, to handle device discovery, routing, LID assignment, and fabric management.

Can I log in to QM8790 through a dedicated RJ45 management port?

No. QM8790 does not include the dedicated Ethernet management port or local CLI environment typically found on managed switches. Day-to-day fabric control is handled by external OpenSM or UFM, while device queries, maintenance, and firmware updates are typically performed in-band from a connected host using NVIDIA Firmware Tools.

How many servers can one QM8790 connect?

When all ports operate at HDR 200G, QM8790 can directly connect up to 40 single-port 200G servers. With QSFP56-to-2×QSFP56 breakout connectivity, its 40 physical ports can provide up to 80 HDR100 100G logical ports for high-density 100G server access.
