Find answers to common questions about our products.

Can QM8790 use HDR 200G and HDR100 100G connections in the same switch?

Yes. The switch can be configured in a split-ready profile, allowing some ports to remain native HDR 200G while others are split into 2×HDR100 links. Complete port planning before deployment, because splitting an interface removes its existing configuration.

Can legacy 100G EDR adapters connect through HDR100 breakout cables?

Not automatically. EDR 100G and HDR100 100G use different lane structures, so matching data rates alone do not guarantee interoperability. For legacy EDR adapters, confirm the adapter model, supported negotiation mode, and cable specification. HDR100 breakout connections are intended for compatible HDR100 adapters and cabling.

Can QM8790 replace a standard 200GbE Ethernet switch?

No. QM8790 is a native InfiniBand switch and does not operate as a standard 200GbE Ethernet switch. IP traffic can be carried over the InfiniBand fabric through IPoIB, but this does not provide conventional Layer 2 or Layer 3 Ethernet switching.
