Can both SFP28 ports run at 25GbE at the same time?
Yes. MCX512A-ACAT is a dual-port SFP28 adapter, and each port can operate at up to 25GbE when the switch port, cable or transceiver, and host configuration match. NVIDIA lists this model as a 25GbE dual-port SFP28 PCIe Gen3 x8 adapter.
Can I use this card in a 10G network before upgrading to 25G?
Yes. The card supports 1/10/25GbE Ethernet rates, so it can be used in existing 10G environments and later migrated to 25G with the correct SFP+/SFP28 optics or cables.
Can I plug a 10G SFP+ transceiver or cable into the SFP28 ports?
Yes, 10G operation is supported, including 10GBASE-SR, 10GBASE-LR, and 10GBASE-ER.
Can this NIC connect to a 100G QSFP28 switch using a breakout cable?
Yes, but the breakout happens on the switch side. If the switch supports QSFP28-to-4×SFP28 25G breakout, each SFP28 leg can connect to one 25G port on the NIC; the NIC itself is not being split into multiple ports.
Should I choose 25G DAC, AOC, SR, or LR for this card?
For short in-rack server-to-switch links, 25G SFP28 DAC is usually the simplest choice. For fiber links, use 25G SR for multimode fiber or 25G LR for single-mode fiber, depending on distance and switch-side requirements; NVIDIA lists 25GBASE-CR/CR-S, SR, and LR support for this adapter family.
